Comment: The purchased package clearly states that 'Third party liability protection (TP)' was included. However when I was at Thrifty, They said that they don't have 'TP' as any insurance, and did not accept that as a third party liability coverage insurance, saying that their third party liability insurance is called 'Supplemental liability insurance (SLI)'. They made me pay extra for such insurance. I feel like I was either tricked by CarTrawler into making me think that I have third party liability coverage. Comment: The voucher was very clear, listing all the items that are included and not included in the package I have paid for. One of the insurance included is the 'Third party liability protection (TP)', which is one of the main reasons I booked with them. Furious to find out later that 'TP' meant nothign to Thrifty, who made me pay for another third party liability insurance. From my knowledge, the voucher listed all that is mandatory by state law, however, problems arose at the front desk. The staff at the pick-up office of Thrifty was friendly and helpfull: Comment about other issues when picking up the car: Not only were they not empathetic about the issue and my concern, they did seem to want to help. They would not want to contact Cartrawler about the problem, nor would they lend me a phone for me to to do it. I do not have roaming to call. (According to the information provided by the customer, CarTrawler has not been contacted after the reservation was made and was not given a chance to solve problems when they occurred.) |

Thrifty did not solve this problem immediately. Comment: We didn't realise until later and we well away from where we picked the car up that it had been used by smokers. And as I write this we may have been able to swap the car along the way but I don't know if that's a possible. However, every time we opened the door, especially if the car was in the sun, it reeked of smoke. There is a no smoking sticker on the window too. Thrifty offered extra insurances that were excessive. The woman at the desk tried to argue that we were not fully covered (we have excess insurance in our personal travel insurance) but she was referring to the insurances in the all-inclusive. I had to point out to her in the paperwork from you that we had that insurance. She started to do the 'fear' sell on us. General judgement Value for money: Comment: The car was VERY basic. Apart from the smoking smell, it was really the bottom of the line. It was automatic and it did have air conditioning, but nothing else. In comparison to what we usually pay (approx AUS$30 per day) this car was much more expensive (AUS$40). The service Thrifty delivered: We would rent a car from Thrifty again. Comment: Only a perhaps, it would all depend on the price. We have rejected DOLLAR as we had an unpleasant experience with them in Denver, Colorado. The service CarTrawler delivered: We would use the service of CarTrawler again. Comment: Absolutely. This made it very confusing when we got to the rental car office to pick up the car as there was no Europcar car counter to be seen. It was written in fine print on the voucher that the car would in fact be provided by Advantage - but this was not obvious. What made this more confusing was that the Advantage booth was not manned in the general rental facility at the time - and the outside booth was difficult to find, positioned right at the back of the the car park itself. I had that moment as we were wondering around trying to find where we could actually speak to someone from Advantage that I thought I had been ripped off - not a great feeling after travelling for 24 hours. Europcar should be Europcar - I don't like selling it as one company and then telling you after the booking it is in fact a different company delivering the service. I had the same thing happen when I booked a different car with Thrifty - which was then delivered by Dollar - had I known I would have been dealing with Dollar, there is no way I would have booked the car no matter how cheap it was. It is the rental company that decides under which brand they operate (prices and rental conditions may be different depending on the brand) and who finally delivers the car. Comment: Yes!! We had to take biggercar (for 6 people) and we had to pay additional 250 US$ to get bigger car !!!
